Ahead of the 2015 presidential election, Vice President Namadi Sambo and Katsina State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema are said to have been engaging in rigorous political warfare over the vice presidential slot in 2015.

According to Nigerian Tribune, loyalists of the vice president had concluded that the Katsina governor that is behind the push to replace the vice president as a running mate to President Jonathan in 2015.

Nigerian Tribune also reported that, the four governors of Jigawa, Kano, Niger and Adamawa alleged to have fingered Governor Shema as responsible for the infighting between them and the presidency.

One of the four governors was said to have accused the Katsina governor of deepening the rift between them and the president, so as to further his ambition in 2015.

Bishir Gambo Shuluwa, a loyalist of the vice president and a PDP chieftain, said the plot against the vice president was real, but noted that “President Jonathan won’t sacrifice a loyal and dependable ally like Sambo.

“It is an open secret here in the North. Some over-ambitious people want the vice president out. But we know the president won’t listen to them.

“Sambo enjoys the confidence of the North because of his inclusive attitude. We know the president won’t drop his close friend,” Shuluwa said.

Shema has however, denied the claims, tagging it rumour and the handiwork of detractors.
