The Adamawa state branch of the Nigerian Association of Physically Challenged Persons, said it lost no fewer than 30 of its members to attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.
The state chairman of the association, Mr Abubakar Hosere, made the announcement on Thursday in Yola.
He said that more than 100 members of the association including their families were still missing since the attacks on Madagali, Gulak, Michika, Bazza and other neighbouring villages in the state.
"The association is deeply concerned and regrets to announce that it lost more than 30 of its members in the recent attacks by insurgents on Madagali, Gulak, Michika, Bazza and other neighbouring villages. Meanwhile, a sizeable number of not less than 100 members, including their families are still missing,’’ Hosere said.
The chairman said that some of the members of the association and their families, especially the blind and crippled were trapped and could not reach rescue operatives.
He said that efforts to reach the trapped members were futile as their telephone lines were out of service.
Hosere said the association had made efforts to evacuate its members from other volatile areas but was constrained by lack of funds.
He said that about 70 physically challenged persons successfully escaped the attacks and had taken refuge in Yola.
He appealed to spirited individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the association to ease the sufferings of its members.
