The 40 members in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing the 20 constituencies in the state, yesterday move from Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to the newly formed and registered party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Osun Defenders, speaking at an emergency plenary session, Whip of the House, Razaq Balogun explained that after the APC was registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last month, it became imperative for them to move from the ACN, a platform under which they were all elected, to the APC.

According to him, the merger came after agreement between the ACN, All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) to form a party that will be a formidable opposition to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Nigerians believe in the crop of men and women who have come together to form the party. You will agree with me that progress and development are taking place in states controlled by these parties that came together. The whole of the South-West is developing so fast including Edo State, so also other states controlled by the other parties.

“So we as the 40 members of this House who are all elected under the platform of the ACN have unanimously agreed to move to the APC, in order to continue with the development,” Balogun added.
