An Egor Magistrates' Court in Benin on Friday remanded in prison custody, a 47-year-old son of a school proprietor alleged to have indecently assaulted four female students.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Igho Braimoh, ordered the remand of Rotimi Olayebi pending the determination of his bail application.

Braimoh adjourned the case till May 26 for commencement of trial.

Olayebi, who lives at No. 3, Edosa St., off Ariasowa Uselu Quarters, Benin, is facing a four-count charge.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Omoruyi Osayomwanbor, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 12 at his residence.

Osayomwanbor said that the girls, whose ages ranged from 12 to 14, were students in the private school run by the mother of the accused at Uselu in Egor Local Government Area of Edo.

The prosecutor said that Olayebi lured the students to his residence and indecently assaulted them by kissing and hugging them and fondling their breasts and private parts.

He said that the offences contravened provisions of Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Edo State.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 360 prescribes two years imprisonment with or without caning, if the accused is found liable.

Olayebi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
