Smartphones are mini, pocket-size computers that require lots of power to run efficiently. These smartphones are so versatile, as they can be used to carry out virtually all daily activities and schedules, because they come packed with apps, software and hardware components, designed to effectively organize and keep track of your activities and schedules. But all these amazing features require enormous battery power to run, and the average Smartphone barely makes it through a day on a full charge.

In Nigeria, the power-sector’s inefficiency has contributed to problems of most Smartphone owners. There is barely enough state supplied electricity to get a 100% battery charge, which virtually removes the possibility of the average Smartphone lasting a whole day in Nigeria. In Nigeria, you can’t utilize your Smartphone efficiently without owning a power bank or carrying around an extra fully-charged battery in your pocket. Nigerians, with low-end smartphones, who have tried going out without extra batteries or power banks normally end the day with flat batteries after few hours of using their smartphones minimally. There are smartphones that have poor battery life, and these are the smartphones with the worst battery life:

1. Blackberry Z10

Blackberry smartphones are notorious when it comes to power management. Their software design allows them update apps, emails as well as other programs, every few seconds. This has a telling effect on their batteries. The Blackberry Z10 Smartphone was one of Blackberry’s first to feature its Blackberry 10 OS and it also has some amazing features such as 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 4.2 inch 1280 X 768 display, etc. The Blackberry Z10 features a 1800 mAh battery, making it a smartphone with one of the worst battery life. The battery runs flat within a few hours and constantly needs to be recharged after few hours of minimal use.

2. Gionee Elife S 5.5

The Gionee Elife S 5.5 is a mid range Smartphone that comes in a stylish and fashionable design made from glass and aluminum. This Smartphone has a thickness of just 5.5mm, glass panels at its front and back, aluminum alloy edges, ultra slim design, all of which combines perfectly to set it apart from other smartphones in its league. The problem most customers have with the Gionee Elife S 5.5 is its battery life. Its 2300 mAh battery is quite poor and can barely last six hours, with minimal use, on a full charge.

3. LG G3

The LG G3 is an amazing Smartphone that comes with high-end features such as a 2.5 GHz quad-core CPU, 1440 X 2560 (QHD) pixel resolution screen, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 13 MP rear camera and a 2.1 MP front-facing camera. This smartphone is powered by a quad-core snapdragon 801 and runs on android 4.4 kitkat OS. Its 3000 mAh battery is massive but not strong enough to fully power the smartphone’s QHD resolution screen. This smartphone’s powerful pixel resolution screen saps out its batteries pretty easily.

4. Infinix Zero

The Infinix Zero is a low-budget Smartphone designed with some high-end features. One thing that strikes you about the Infinix brand of smartphones is their designs. Its glass on metal finish is so exquisite, classy and trendy. Its features include a superfast 1.4 GHz octa-core processor, 5-inch HD IPS screen with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels, 13 megapixel rear camera, 2 Megapixel front camera, 8GB built in memory and a RAM of 1 or 2GB, depending on the model. The Infinix Zero is powered by a dismal 1920 mAh battery, which is barely able to handle minimal use for a few hours and it seems the Smartphone’s features are stronger than the battery’s capacity.

5. Tecno Mobile

Tecno is a low-end Smartphone that packs some high-end features. Their low-end smartphones allow the common man enjoy android apps and games which were supposedly meant for high-end Smartphone owners. Their average smartphones feature dual and quad-core processors, 3G, 3.5 and HSDPA network connectivity, WIFI, external SD card slots and other amazing features. Tecno generally has poor batteries and this can be attributed to its consistent use of cheap battery cells and technology. However, Tecno tries to make up for its inferior batteries by including spares, as well as substandard power banks. This measure ensures that their customers aren't left stranded as a result of using its inferior batteries.

In conclusion, all smartphones require good batteries to run effectively, however, their ability to effectively manage their battery’s capacity solely depends on the quality of the battery cells being used as well as the energy-saving technologies included in these smartphones. Nigeria’s power situation makes it a necessity for you to own smartphones with good battery life because it will save you the stress of having to recharge your smartphones frequently.
