The National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP) t has reported that over 500 people have been sent to prison after being convicted of child abuse and human trafficking in Nigeria.
Mrs. Kehinde Akomolafe, NAPTIP Head, Public Enlightenment Unit, Lagos Zone said, “Child abuse includes all types of abuse and neglect of a child under the age of 18 by a parent, caregiver, or another person in a custodial role.”
Mrs. Kehinde Akomolafe also blamed this occurrence to poverty, greed, ignorance, breakdown of family values and traditions, calling on parents to reconsider the use of their children as a source of wealth acquisition, especially in violation of the Child Rights Act of Nigeria.
