2016 is fast winding up with several ups and down in the Nation's polity, the year has also seen states come up with beautiful programmes, unprecedented developmental efforts from state governors. Here is a look at some of these key achievements of governors in the South West.

Lagos: Governor Akinwunmi Ambode Commissions Medical Helicopter

Three weeks ago, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, commissioned the first ever medical helicopter emergency service in Nigeria.at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja. Governor Ambode said the ‘Helipad commissioned is a lifesaving asset and critical complement to the efficient functioning of this Unit and other emergency services being rendered by the State. Over the years, we have witnessed emergency situations which require timely movement of victims to appropriate medical facilities. Keeping in mind that every minute matters in securing the lives of people involved in these incidents, the usual movement by road is not the best option in such situations. Helicopters have therefore become an efficient and reliable option which can only be made possible with the availability of helipads within the hospital environment.''

Osun: Gov. Aregbesola compensates Osun residents affected by road projects – Though enveloped in much controversies of late, more than 450 people whose farms were affected by road construction in Osun State on Monday, June 20 received monetary compensations.

Three other people, whose houses were affected by road construction in the rural areas, also collected keys to newly built houses.

Handing over the compensation and keys to the beneficiaries, Governor Rauf Aregbesola said the compensations were in fulfillment of his government’s promise that people will not be burdened by developments on-going in the different parts of the state.

He handed over cheques of N28 million to 450 farmers, including some traditional rulers, whose farms were affected by construction of roads in the rural areas by Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP) The three individuals who collected keys into their new houses worth N10 million include; Adebisi Dauda (Yinma Aba Village); Comfort Odebode (Gbengbeleku Village) and Akinwale Oyetade (Gbengbeleku Village) all in the suburb of Ile-Ife.

That singular act restored hope to those that have been earlier displaced.

The projects included roads, bridges, model schools as well as ultra-modern-day markets.
