70 People Being Treated For Cholera in Kano

No fewer than 70 persons are currently receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Kano following the outbreak of cholera in Nasarawa and Dala Local Government Areas of the State.

The Deputy Director, Public Health and Disease Control in the hospital, Dr Tijjani Hussaini, made this known in Kano on Thursday.

``We started receiving cases of the disease two days ago and the number of affected persons has increased’’, he said.

According to him, most of the victims were infected after visiting some of their infected relations.

Hussaini assured that the State Government is taking measures aimed at controlling the situation.

``We have established temporary centres where there is concentration of the cases. This will enable those infected persons to go and get prompt medical attention’’, he said.

He also said that health personnel had been sent to houses affected by the disease in order to control the spread of the disease.

He warned people to desist from drinking unclean water and always wash their hands with soap after visiting toilet.

``People should also wash vegetables and fruits before eating and avoid taking uncooked food’’, he said.
