Simply identified as Dr. Mbakwe, aged 74, has reportedly shot himself with a gun at his home in Aba, Abia State.
Not entirely clear of what may have led to the lone suicide, but reports say frustration might have pushed him to do so as he had been bedridden with an undisclosed illness for over 30 years.
The deceased wife, Mary, was said to be out of the house, when Mbaekpe allegedly shot himself. The gunshot attracted neighbours.
He died on the way to the hospital.
“He has been sick for about 30 years now. The family continued to take care of him and seek solution to his ailment, he kept telling us that he was tired of life. While his wife was out of the house, he shot himself. Nobody knew he could get to the extent of taking his life,” the family source said.
The family has reported the matter to the Abayi Police Division and his remains have been deposited at the state mortuary.
