A Senior Magistrates' Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced a businessman, Jude Abang, 33, to 90 days in prison for being in possession of stolen handsets and SIM cards.

The Magistrate, Mr Abdullahi Illelah, however, gave Abang an option of two thousand naira fine..

Illelah convicted Abang of Gwarinpa Village, Abuja after he pleaded guilty to a count charge of being in possession of stolen goods.

“I put into consideration the plea of the convict because he was a first-time offender who admitted committing the offence and did not waste the time of the court,’’ he said.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Salihu Mohammed, had told the court that Abang was arrested by a team of police detectives, led by Insp. Timothy Onoja, attached to the Gwarinpa Police Station on Nov.11.

Mohammed said that at the time of arrest, the accused was in possession of Samsung Galaxy telephone sets, ipad phones and sim cards of various networks.

He added that during interrogation, Abang could not give a satisfactory account of how he got the items.
