Metro Abuja Police Arraign Househelp for Stealing N0.9m From Employer

The police on Tuesday arraigned a house help, Alice Adakoli, 29, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for stealing her employer's N900, 000.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ambi Ayuba, told the court that accused worked as a house help to Mrs Glady’s Adama of House No. 1, flat 15, Umuahia Close, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.

Ayuba told the court that Adama lodged a report at the Garki Police Station on Nov. 18 that the accused stole N900, 000 from her employer's room, while she was away.

He said the accused ran to an unknown destination after committing the act and that she was unable to give a satisfactory account of the money which she had earlier confessed to stealing later during investigation.

If convicted, the accused is liable to 17 years in prison or with an option of fine.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr Christopher Oba, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum who must be a civil servant not below GL 9.

He adjourned the case to Dec. 19 for beginning of trial.
