Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, speaker of the Adamwa state house of Assembly has denied embezzling N18billion state funds during his tenure as acting governor.

According to LEADERSHIP, Fintiri said that when he assumed leadership of the state, the financial position of the state was in a bad shape saying the state was heading to a total collapse due to high level of indebtedness.

"The state owed liquid cash of over N12billion to just one bank and for over three years the state government had been paying salaries through overdraft.

"The state was paying about N100million monthly as interest on overdraft, term loan repayments of about N1billion monthly and overdraft repayment of N3.5billion monthly. This makes the state vulnerable to exploitation by the banks.

Fintirir blamed the media for the N18billion embezzlement scandal claiming they were out to tarnish his reputation.
