Adamawa state Governor, Murtala Nyako has approved the release of 24 inmates of the Yola Prison as part of the country's 53rd independence anniversary.

A statement issued by Alhaji Ahmad Sajo, Press Secretary to the Governor, on Thursday said, "the release of the prisoners by the governor was in exercise of the power conferred on him by the 1999 Constitution as amended".

Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Justice, Mr Sulaiman Mohammed, urged those released not to indulge in acts capable of returning them to the prison.(NAN)

I think the prisoners were released because the prisons were overflowing and catering for everybody wasn't easy anymore. I'm expecting more prisoners to be released soon.
