But they couldn't sustain the tempo as South Africa clawed their way back to usurp Nigeria in the lead.

A clean sweep of medals by Team Nigeria in the 110m hurdles on Wednesday when the trio of Tyron Akins,Alex Al-Ameen,Martins Ogierakhi brought renewed hopes about a late show.

In one of the field event,Chinwe Okoro won the Discus title in a Championship record while Okwelogu settled for silver.

She equally made sure she won another before leaving the championship, winning silver in the Shot Put event.

Even the gold medal won by the 4x400m team comprising of Patience George Okon, Regina George, Ada Benjamin and Folashade Abugan was not enough to stop South Africa from winning the championship

However, the Nigerian contingent will be proud with their performances at the competition, knowing that they were in it right until the last day.
