Yesterday, Nyanya experienced a bomb explosion, the second in just 17 days. The media has reported several follow-up stories, the government has reacted (somewhat), and citizens likewise.

Below is a summary of the notable headlines/stories after the blast:

The initial report of the blast was documented here, after which we wrote an update from NEMA detailing how this second attack on Nyanya happened.

First mentioning that President Jonathan broke down and wept when news of the blast reached him, Osun Defender called for the resignation of the president, or for the sack of FCT minister on the grounds of negligence and irresponsibility. Following the blast, daughter of the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, wrote an Open Letter to the insurgents, saying they were killing the wrong people. We revisited a study from last month which suggests that Shekau has lost control over the Boko Haram fighters.

A tweet from the president’s spokesman, Reuben Abati, notified Nigerians that the president was in a security meeting with security chiefs over the latest bomb blast.

Think Africa Press believes the abduction of the Chibok girls reveals Boko Haram’s weakness, while Nyanya motor park will be relocated to address security challenges.

Find out about the death toll from the blast here.
