Preparatory to debates on the last committee’s report of the national conference, which commences tomorrow, over 350 delegates from South-east, South-south and South-west are scheduled to meet today with northern minorities delegates in a counter offensive against the core North to torpedo the outcome of the conference through the National Assembly.
The national conference plans to debate the report of Devolution Committee, which key recommendation is on derivation. In the report, the southern delegates are seeking 50 per cent derivation while the core north is insisting on the status quo, which is 13 per cent.
Today’s meeting is coming against the feelers that delegates from the core north have planned to discredit some of the resolutions of the national conference by blackmailing their northern counterparts and whip up sentiments that the south dominates the conference.
