The Akwa Savings and Loans limited has let go 40 of its workers.
The bank is owned by the Akwa Ibom government and has branches all over the state.
The bank's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ebong Bassey said 50 more workers will soon be sacked.
"This is a move to aggressively restructure the bank and reposition it for global competitiveness," he said.
He added that the move would increase the capital base of the bank.
