Sports Alhassan Yakmut Pledges NSC's Support To Rugby Development And Management In Nigeria

The National Sports Commission director general, Dr. Alhassan Yakmut has pledged total support for the development of Rugby Football in Nigeria.

He made this remark in a meeting with the NRFF President, ‘Edward Pan Fom’, Vice Chairman World Rugby and President South Africa Rugby Union ‘Oregan Hoskins’, Head of International Relations and Development World Rugby ‘David Carrigy’ and Gilbert Marketing Representative ‘Helen Manufor’ at the Royal Garden Hotel in London during the 2015 Rugby World.

The DG revealed that the partnership with the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation will bring about developmental program with the aim and objective to sustain its growth.

Alhassan also promised that his stay as the DG of the NSC will give equal and deserved attention to all federation as witnessed during the preparation for the 50th anniversary edition of the All African Games in Congo.

The DG, who played volleyball for the national team emphasised on the importance of grass roots programs which is eminent to sports development, in Nigeria and the world at large.

He then commended the NRFF for their effort towards the growth of Rugby in Nigeria and called on the association's President to make available all necessary details to enhance government's participation in the Get into Rugby programme currently running at a slow pace in Nigeria also pledging his commitment to support the programme.

The DG’s pledge at the meeting opened the door of partnership between the NSC and World Rugby signing a proposed Memorandum of Understanding on rugby development, grass root development, administration and governance in Nigeria.

With this latest development, the World Rugby board executive members are billed to visit Nigeria in January 2016 at the instance of the DG for continuous deliberation and physical assessment of rugby in Nigeria
