The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, on Monday cancelled her meeting with the ministry’s heads of parastatals and journalists due to the Nyanya explosion in Abuja.

Alison-Madueke had, on Monday in Abuja, scheduled an interactive meeting with journalists on some developments in the ministry.

The minister, who announced the cancellation to the waiting gathering, expressed sadness over what she described as ‘’an unfortunate incident.’’

According to her, there is the need to “give honour to the dead.”

AIison-Madueke, who was in a low spirit while addressing the gathering, called on Nigerians to support “Mr. President at this crucial moment.

``We feel it is inappropriate to hold this press conference at this time as we support Mr. President during this difficult issue that our country is going through at this time.

``The most appropriate thing will be to come back to this as soon as possible, I ask for your understanding that we reconvene as soon as we can.

``However, let us support Mr. President in facing the issue surrounding the very unhappy incident that happened in Nyanya this morning,” she said.

The minister sympathised with the families of those that lost their loved ones in the incident.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that multiple explosions on Monday rocked Nyanya in the FCT claiming many lives and injuring many others
