The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra on Wednesday welcomed the defection of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Interim Secretary of APC in Anambra, Mr Chukwuma Agufugo, told newsmen that the defection indicated that APC was fast growing and becoming more acceptable to Nigerians.

“Atiku’s defection to APC alongside his supporters will broaden the horizon for the APC, and it will encourage the party to move to the next level.

“People who defect to the party know that it is the best thing that happens to the nation’s political environment and it will benefit Nigerians,” Agufugo said.

He also commended Governors Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Babatunde Fashola of Lagos, saying they had made the well-being of the society paramount in their policies.

Conversely, Agufugo described Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra as “a photo governor” who chased shadows and abandoned the people’s welfare.

“Obi has distributed more than 3000 vehicles to people across the state with tax payers’ money which should be invested in the provision of amenities and infrastructure.

“The governor gives out cash donations and goes to the field to lay foundation stones for projects that are nearing completion.”

Agufugo said Sen. Chris Ngige during his tenure never engaged in such practices, but rather executed projects for the infrastructural development of the state.

Reacting to the vituperation, Mr Mike Udah, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Peter Obi, said that Agufugo’s attack was to seek relevance.

Udah said Obi’s performance had made him to be the most reasonable of all the helms men in the state, adding that inaugurating a project when it was nearing completion was a plus.

“I want Agufugo to tell me one person or group of persons to whom a car or cars were presented who do not deserve such cars,” he said.

“Recently, he donated vehicles to the Nigerian Prisons Service in the state to convey inmates from prisons to the court.

“The governor has extended the gesture to the Nigerian Army, the police and other security agencies,” he added.

Udah said the provision of vehicles had not prevented the governor from delivering other needs to the people, adding that Obi had executed more road projects than other governors put together.

“He has distinguished himself as a model in the area of education where American professors have studied and recommended his modus operandi to other governments,” Udah said.
