Tony Okechukwu Nwoye, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will be battling with the incumbent governor, Mr Willie Obiano, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Mr Oseloka Obaze of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Godwin Ezeemo of the Progressives People’s Alliance (PPA) among others for the November 18, Gubernatorial race in Anambra state.

Here are ten things you should know about one of the leading contender in the race:

1. Born August 13, 1974 in Anambra and the 'youngest aspirant among the leading candidate'.

2. Currently a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing the people of Anambra East/West constituency of Anambra state.

3. He was a former Governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2013 election in Anambra state but currently a member of the All Progressives Congress

4. He went to Metropolitan Secondary School, Onitsha for his secondary education from where he proceeded to study medicine in the University of Nigeria college of medicine and later furthered his knowledge of medicine at the Ebonyi state University and sworn in as a medical doctor.

5. He was a former President of the National association of Nigeria student (NANS)

6. In December 2003 He arose to state power as Assistant Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Anambra State PDP in 2005 and by 2006 at the age of 31, he became the Chairman of the State Executive Committee of the Anambra State PDP making him the youngest State Chairman of a major political party in the entire nation.

7. He is the founder and non executive Director of Vintage Consolidated Ltd

8. Tony has served the nation selflessly and meritoriously in various capacities some of which include:
2004: Member, Presidential committee against Illegal arms and violent crimes
2005: Member, National Political Reform conference, Member Federal committee on 2006 census,
2005 – Leader of the Nigerian Delegation to the World Youth Summit in Venezuela.
2006: Non – Executive Director, Hadejiyah Jamaare River Basin, Kano – Federal ministry of Water Resources.

9. One of his campaign promises is to entrench an agricultural policy in the state that would help the people of Anambra State develop their agricultural interests to commercial levels using resources from local and international development institutions.


10. He is a devout Catholic and is married with children.
