British Lawn Tennis star, Andy Murray, has taken over from Novak Djokovic as the World number one tennis player.

A 405 point gap now separates Murray from former world number one Djokovic with the ATP World Tour Finals to begin next weekend in London.

Murray is officially the first Brit to occupy that position since John Newcombe in 1974, after he overpowered John Isner 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 to win the Paris Masters on Sunday.

It was also Murray’s first Paris Masters title and the victory brought Murray his sixth ATP title of a very good 2016 for the Brit.

He told reporters after the game, “It feels different, certainly, to when I had won a Grand Slam or anything like that or the Olympics. It feels quite different. Maybe just because of the way it happened, really.

“When you play a final, you win or you lose. Whereas with the No.1 ranking, it’s not really like that.

“I could still potentially have had a chance to do it next week so it feels kind of different.”
