Metro Army Impostor Charged With Assault

An unemployed man, Alex Gadani, 33, on Wednesday was sent to the Igbosere Magistrates' Court, with charges of impersonating an army office.

Gadani is facing a three-count charge of impersonation, bringing contempt on uniform and assault.

The prosecutor, DSP Jaiyeola Oloruntoba said the accused, while wearing an army cap and belt, presented himself to one Mr James Aboh as a soldier in the Nigeria Army.

He alleged that Gadani also assaulted Aboh and struck him several times with a vehicle fan belt.

The complainant reported the matter to the police anwhen the matter was investigated, it was discovered that Gadani was not an army personnel.

He said that the offences committed contravened Sections 77 (b), 167 and 170 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011. Section 77 (b) prescribes three years imprisonment for the offence of impersonating a member of the armed forces or police.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Ms O. Fowowe, granted Gadani N100,000 bail with two sureties and adjourned the case to Jan. 20, 2014 for trial.
