The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged the Federal Government to urgently resolve the contending issues that made lecturers of poytechnics and colleges of education embark on strike.

The ASUU President, Dr Nasir Fagge, made the call on Monday in Abuja while briefing newsmen on the state of the nation.

Fagge said it was imperative for government to resolve the issues involved in the interest of the Nigerian people and the development of sustainable education.

He condemned the method being used by policemen to disperse the peaceful protests embarked upon by ASUP and COEASU members.

He said the unions were only matching to the National Assembly complex to deliver their letters of protest.

"This is one of the ways that the unions will attract the attention of the public and press home their demands.’’

He added that ASUU therefore condemned the attack by the Nigerian police on the protesting members of ASUP and COEASU.

The ASUU president also urged the Federal Government to evolve a comprehensive strategy in curbing the insurgency in the country.

``These include socio-economic development and education, pursuit of humanistic socio-economic development with the goal of fulfilling the needs of the people.’’

Fagge also called on government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward rescuing the abducted schools girls from Chibok, Borno.
