The Academic Staff Union of Universities has faulted the statement of Dr. Okonjo-Iweala about their N92bn demand, describing it as false.

Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, the University of Ibadan branch chairman described the amount mentioned by the finance minister as ‘the imagination of the minister’.

According to Ajiboye, the N87bn demanded covered allowances of University lecturers for three and half years. The amount was a compromise made by ASUU as the initial amount was N127bn.

He said the government signed an agreement with ASUU on January 24, 2012 to the effect that the government would inject funding worth N100bn into universities in the first one month and that before the end of 2012, another N300bn would be added.
