Former Vice President Atiku Abubakr in Abuja on Wednesday called for the strengthening of judicial institutions in the country.

Abubakar made the call at the Public Presentation and launch of a book titled “Landmark Constitutional Law Cases in Nigeria (2004-2007): The Atiku Abubakar Cases’’ written by Mr Maxwell Gidado and Mr Chudi Ojukwu.

He said that strengthening judicial institutions would make the judiciary an independent, fearless and impartial pillar of democracy and added that the judiciary deserved commendation, especially during the trials to remove him from office as vice president.

Abubakar added that the whole process of standing for his right had showed him that there was need to do more to strengthen judicial institutions.

“Today, we know that a sitting president or governor of a state may choose to humiliate his deputy but he cannot remove him from office.

“Today, we also have an elected governor that can defect from his party to another party, among others.’’

Earlier, Prof. Ademola Popoola, the book reviewer, said the book had revealed the true story of the Supreme Court decision, which was in favour of Atiku over an attempt to remove him from office.
