The AU Conference of Ministers of Social Development (CAMSD4) began a four-day meeting in Addis Ababa with focus on how to tackle the challenges of child marriage on the continent.

The conference is saddled with the task to review and evolve new strategies to end harmful practises among communities in #Africa.

The meeting is to develop a plan for the implementation of the Framework for Action and Recommendations on Harmful Traditional Practises (HTPs).

The conference will also put into consideration a Continental Launch of the AU Campaign to End Child Marriage in Africa.

According to the Concept note of the ministerial session, the AU is also expected to scale up a definite strategy that would promote and protect the rights of Children with Disabilities.

This would be in accordance with the resolution of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child

The fourth Session of the AU Conference of Ministers of Social Development is being organised in accordance with the January 2013 AU Executive Council decision, adopted by the African Common Position in Preparation for the 20th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family.
