A recent video showing a policeman who demanded for bribe from a citizen in dollars went viral on the internet, sparking public derision of the police force and further denting it's bent public image. This prompted the Nigeria police into action, mounting a search for the renegades.
The police in a statement issued by CSP Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer on Monday in Abuja has revealed that the culprit has been caught.
He is no other than Cpl. Aniyem Chiyem with Force Number 374171 and attached to Isheri Division, Lagos Police Command.
"The order was issued to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos, Mr Umar Manko, to ensure prompt arrest and investigation of the matter.
"The suspect, who is now in police custody, is undergoing Orderly Room trial and if found guilty, will face appropriate disciplinary actions’’, the statement said.
It said the I-G commended the whistle blower and for the painstaking efforts in exposing what would have been a hidden crime.
The statement urged the public to emulate the whistle blower whom it described as noble and patriotic.
It added that the action would go a long way in preventing crime in the society.
