Sports AWC: Nigeria's Super Falcons hammer Zambia 6-0

Nigeria's Super Falcons yet again put up a dominant display by pummeling the 'Shepolopolos' of Zambia 6-0 at the ongoing 2014 African Women's Championship in Namibia.

The Super Falcons had no problems in the game going past the Southern African nation, who were second best in the match, having the upper hand from start to finish.

Though the Zambians were reduced to ten women, the Super Falcons were already three goals up as at the time Grace Zulu was given her matching orders by the Moroccan referee.

As early as the first five minutes, the Super Falcons were already two goals up,attacking the Zambians from the onset.

Ngozi Okobi got the Falcons rolling with an easy tap-in just after two minutes, with Osinachi Ohale heading in the second goal in the fifth minute.

There was no escaping the rout for Zambia when Desire Oparanozie converted from the spot to give Nigeria a 3-0 lead after just 25 minutes.

The Falcons held the upper hand, with the only moment of worry coming when Osinachi was caught in possesion allowing Zambia's captain,Kabange through on goal, but she wasted the effort to pull a goal back for her team.

A cynical challenge from Zulu on Oparanozie saw her pick up a second yellow card,to make it more difficult for her team.

However the Super Falcons were made to wait for more goals in the second half, this time it came from Asisat Oshoala who headed in Nigeria's fourth goal.

Oparanozie latched on to a pass and scooped her effort past the onrushing Zambian goalkeeper to net her second goal of the game,Nigeria's fifth of the match.

But the perfect moment in the game came when veteran player Perpetua Nkwocha scored Nigeria's sixth goal.

The most experienced player on the field for Nigeria, the 38-year old raced to a pass, drilled the ball with her left leg on to her right, and then curled it into the net for her well crafted goal.

Nigeria will next play against the host team,Namibia in their next group game,in what could determine who tops the group.

Having thumped Zambia, the Super Falcons have now become the first team to qualify for the next round of the AWC and are on course to reclaim the Women's title.
