Despite the adoption of extra security measures by the police, a gang of heavily armed robbers on Thursday stormed the Isele-Uku branch of a new generation bank in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State using dynamite to blast the building.

It was recalled that the same branch was robbed in May 2008 by an eight-man armed gang, who made away with huge sum og money from the strong room of the bank.

The robbery caused pandemonium in the heart of the town as customer of the banks and passers-by took to their heels on hearing gun shots and the blasts of the dynamite. However, as at the time of filing this news it could not be established whether money was stolen from the vault.

State police command’s spokesman, Mr. Lucky Uyabeme, said: “We are trailing the robbers. We are on their trail. We have even trailed them to Edo State. No arrest has been made and no casualty.”
