Unlike many towns and communities in Bayelsa State, the Ogbia Kingdom in Ogbia local government area of the state has come under mixed blessings over its identification with President Goodluck Jonathan, with heavy presence of armed security due to the rising fear of kidnappers from neighbouring creeks and waterways.

As at the last count, the number of indigenes of Ogbia communities kidnapped in the last two years, have risen to seven, with the abduction in February 2014 of Chief Inebai Inegiete, the foster father of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Other victims of the abduction saga include Mrs Augusta Douglas-Ayam, the sister to the special adviser to the president on research and documentation, Mr Oronto Douglas; Mrs Igbalipiri, wife of the state treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); the brother to King A.J. Turner, Chief Gbalipre Turner; and Madam Joyce Ebua, the sister to the state commissioner for sports, Chief Mitema Obordor. There was also a botched attempt on Jonathan’s cousin, Ms Patience Agbani in Okolobiri area of Ogbia town.
