Some policemen threw caution to the wind in Bayelsa State and beat a serving Nigerian Navy officer to a pulp over his refusal to offer them bribe.

The incident was said to have taken place during last Saturday’s monthly environmental sanitation in the Tombia area of the state.

The policemen, attached to the Police Mobile Force, were said to have mounted a roadblock near the Tombia roundabout, allegedly collecting bribes from motorists and commercial tricycle operators.

An eyewitness, who did not want his name mentioned for fear of reprisal, said the naval officer attached to the Central Naval Command, Yenagoa, incurred the wrath of the policemen when they stopped the vehicle he was in and demanded a bribe from the driver.
