Just as Koh samui is known to be an island in Thailand, for most people coming for holidays, it is all about the beaches. Not everyone, but for the majority, this is a tropical island destination with warm, clear and calm waters that lap the sands of beachfront accommodation. Here are a few excellent beaches in Koh Samui;

Silver Beach which is a 250m - long tropical beach paradise set in a charming little bay facing northeast, located just north of Lamai Beach, at the foothills and cliffs separating Lamai from the more popular Chaweng area on the east coast of Koh Samui. Also known as the head of Thong Takhian (which means ' the beach of the Ta-khians Trees'), Silver Beach hosts four long-established hotels and restaurants; Crystal Bay Beach Resort, Sivler Beach Resort, Thong Takhian Resort, and Crystal Bay Yacht Club which occupy the full length of the beach.Nevertheless, and according to Thai law, even if visitors are not staying at one of the hotels, they are still free to access this tranquil strip of sand which offers some particularly good sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling opportunities. Other available facilities are two beach body massage parlor that offers a wide range of massages, treatments and manicure/pedicure, also sea kakays are available for rent for some hundred baht occupying the beach.

Another interesting beach on Koh Samui; Koh Phanga Beach which is world famous due to its Full Moon, Half Moon and many other parties. Koh Phanga actually has about 10,000 inhabitants, yet up to 30,000 visitors party there. Kho Phanga's main claim to fame is largely due to its many Full Moon, ' Black Moon' and just about any other moon beach parties, with the Full Moon celebrations attracting from 10,00 to 30,00 travelers at new year's eve. Predominantly made up of granite, its almost unspoilt beauty is accented by a hilly, lush tropical jungle interior, many idyllic, long white-sand beaches and over 20 nearby dive sites. Transportation is mostly provided by 'song teaows,' converted pickup trucks that ply the hilly roads and rented jeeps and motorcycles, while private taxis can also be hired.

Choeng Mon Beach is also a wonderful beach in Koh Samui. Much more upmarket that it neighbors Big Buddha, Choeng Mon is made up of a series of bays on the northwestern tip of the island, which are dominated by a handful of three to five star resorts. Most of the activities of places like the White House, Q signature and Tong Sai Bay are kept in-house, meaning that apart from a few tailors and local restaurants, there is not a lot going on outside the hotels. Still, when guests can have their own private beach as offered by Tong Sai and the Peninsula, ther is not not a great deal of incentive to leave either. Most part of the resorts attract an older, package tour crowd, mainly from Germany and France. This is reflected on the food and entertainments on offer in the resorts' restaurants.So visitors should not expect the Thai cuisine served to be too spicy and do not expect traditional Thai dancing and numerous Filipino bands expertly playing covers of Western pop standards.

For visitors who love activities all through, Chaweng Beach is most recommended because this is the most famous and busiest of all beaches in Koh Samui.The sand is white, soft with a scenic backdrop of jungle trees. This activity-filled beach is lined with luxury accommodation. It can be quite busy and noisy, but visitor's should be able to have a goon night's sleep. Due to its busy nature, there is a high concentration of shops and restaurants so visitors do not have to go far for any reason. Most clubs and bars are concentrated in and around Chaweng. This is where one can find most groups of young people staying on the island, but there, families and older citizens can be found as well having fun too.

The second most famous beach in Koh Samui; Lamai Beach. The sand is not as soft as Chaweng, and the sea sometimes can get a little rough, but generally it is a nice soft sand beach with calm waters. It is a busy place, but not as busy as Chaweng so accommodation there are less crowded. It is a quieter version of Chaweng, with little or less of everything, except bars. There are a great number of bars and restaurants to keep most taste buds happy. The visitors there are a mixture of all types, young, old, family, couples and groups. So there is always space for any category.
