Best NECO Students Rewarded With National Awards, Cash Prizes

One hundred and eleven students have been rewarded with cash prizes and National and state awards by LearnAfrica for emerging as the best students in the National Examinations Council, NECO, in their states and in the country, Vanguard reports.

Mr. Nder Sesugh Samuel from Vaatia College, Makurdi , Benue State has emerged overall best candidate in the 2014 NECO examination in Nigeria. He was given N100,000 cash, a certificate, a trophy, a laptop computer, a plaque and a smart phone alongside other prizes.

Just as the duo of Adesokan Adediran Sakirudeen and Raji Oluwatobi Quadri who are the first and second best in Lagos State, emerged the overall second and third best students in Nigeria respectively. Adepoju Barakat Aderonke, a student of Chrisland College, Idimu won the third best award in Lagos State.

Sakirudeen won a cash prize of N80, 000 and plaque in the national award, with an additional cash prize of N40, 000 and certificate in the state award; Quadri went home with N60, 000 and a plaque in the national award and an additional N30, 000 and certificate in the state award; while Aderonke won a cash prize of N20, 000 and a certificate.

Of the 111 candidates comprising the three best candidates in each state including the federal capital territory, 50 awardees were female, while 61 were male.

Speaking at the LearnAfrica – NECO Excellence Awards ceremony held at Felix Iwerebon House, Ikeja, Lagos, Learn Africa Education Development Foundation Chairman, Chief Emeke Iwerebon restated commitment to continue encouraging the students and teachers who posted brilliant results in National Examination Council (NECO) examination.
