Ahead of the World Athletics Championship in Moscow,coach Brown Ebewele(Juju man) has stated that the weight of expectation on Blessing Okagbare could put her under pressure.
Ebewele reckoned that Nigeria faltered at the London 2012 Olympics, because all the hopes were pinned on Okagbare,which affected her performances at the Games.
“I fear that Blessing may be under pressure but I pray she remains strong,” Ebewele told Vanguard Sports.
“We went to the London Olympics and banked all our hopes on one person. The same thing is happening today. We have a situation where the President of the Athletics Federation in the person of Chief Solomon Ogba is spending so much of his personal money to lift the sport. It does not augur well for Nigeria because he who pays the piper dictates the tune.”
Okagbare will be competing in four events in Moscow: 100m, 200m, 4x100m and the Long Jump events.
