Blessing Okagbare added to Nigeria’s medal tally at the World Athletics Championship in Moscow finishing third to win a bronze medal in the Women’s 200m finals.
Okagbare shook off the disappointment of losing in the finals of the women’s 100m finals, where she placed sixth and powered herself to a medal zone in the 200m.
She came off the blocks nicely unlike in the 100m finals and was in contention all through to the finish line.
Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce won the race by a mile finishing in a time of 22.17ses while Ivory Coast sprinter,Murielle Ahoure took the silver medal, her second of the championship, with Okagbare taking the bronze, though both were given the same time of 22.32,but Ahoure was notched up to second place six thousandths of a second.
The 24-year old Nigerian was close to snatching the second spot, having ran neck to neck with her African counterpart, but would be contented with the finish on the podium.
Nigeria have now won two medals at the championship, all courtesy of Okagbare, having silver in the Women’s Long Jump event.
Hopefully she will inspire the Nigerian team to a medal spot in the 4x100m relay race.
