The JTF thinks Abubakar Shekau may have died between 25 July and 3 August following a shootout between JTF and Boko Haram.
It is believed that Shekau was mortally wounded 30 June, when soldiers raided a Boko Haram base at Sambisa Forest in north-eastern Nigeria.
He might have been sneaked into Amitchide, a border community in neighbouring Cameroon for treatment.
Boko Haram has become more brutal under the leadership of Shekau. The founder of Boko Haram, Muhammed Yusuf died in police custody in 2009 and Shekau was rumoured to be dead which proved to be untrue.
There have been no confirmed report of Shekau's death and the Boko Haram are silent on the matter.
