According to Alhaji Mohammed Kauji, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education in Borno, the state government on Thursday directed operators of private schools to re-open for the new session in compliance with the Federal Government directive for schools to resume on Sept 22.

Kauji, however, said that public schools would remain closed pending when alternative accommodation would be provided for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge in school buildings in Maiduguri.

``The IDPs have occupied most school buildings in the state capital; this is due mainly to insecurity facing us.

"Plans are underway to get places to relocate them so that schools can re-open for classes,'' he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that public schools in the state were closed on March 16, following insurgent attack on the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe.

Private schools were, however, not affected by the closure.
