The 40-year-old Eguhuo Bridge in Agba, Ishiellu Local Government Area of Ebonyi, collapsed on Wednesday due to the flood and pressure caused by a downpour.

The affected communities are Ogboji, Eguhuo, Eguotu, Eguogiji and Onunweke. The bridge linked the area to Amagunze in Enugu state. As a result, a journey to Enugu that only took 30 minutes from those areas has increased to some hours.

The commissioner said the contractor, who is now dead, did a substandard job on the foundation design which has halted the project.
