President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government on Tuesday ordered a probe of the nine federal universities established by the past administration to ascertain the execution of their projects.

He said the probe is to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public funds and also determine the quantum of public funds provided for the universities to facilitate the new federal universities.

The Universities are;

Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State;

Federal University, Ndufu-Alikie, Ikwo, Ebonyi State,

Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State;

Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State;

Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State;

Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State,

Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State;

Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State,

Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, among others.

The universities were established by Jonathan.

In a speech at the maiden convocation of the Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, President Muhmmadu Buhari, noted that his administration would not condone corruption in the federal universities. Represented by the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Rasheed Adamu Abubakar, he remarked that universities must be example in good governance and financial management.

“No room for corruption in the academic sector. We are going to take a tour of all projects executed by our new federal universities to ensure that funds allocated to them are judiciously utilised. Our universities must be examples in good governance and financial management.

So, there is no room for corruption in the academic sector.” The president warned against abuse and exploitation of students.
