President Muhamamdu Buhari has revealed three key things he will fix before leaving office.
The President made the revelation while speaking at a meeting with the director, Global Upstream of Shell Oil Company at the State house, Abuja, on Tuesday, October 25.

The three key things are:

1. Accountability

President Buhari made it clear that his determination to return Nigeria to the “good old days of accountability” was still on track. He also said that he would make sure all public office holders in Nigeria are held accountable. This has been shown in his continued war against corruption. President Buhari gave the reason for his tough stance on corruption and accountability, saying: “It is only by doing this that investor morale and confidence will return, and the economy will be positioned on the path of growth.”

2. Niger Delta

As part of the meeting which included the Shell company’s concern with security of oil infrastructure in the Niger-Delta. the president urged them that militancy in the Niger Delta was another thing he would fix before he left office. He commended the Shell company for their continued faith in the Nigerian economy, giving them assurances on some issues of concern raised by the company. He then assured that his government would continue to prioritize security and also dialogue with the stakeholder-communities in the Niger Delta will continue. He also called for continued protection by the Nigerian Navy in view of repeated threats of attack by militants.

3. Power supply
The president also assured that the matter of epileptic power supply was one he had plans to fix before he left office. He said he would surely solve the country’s perennial electricity problem.

They more interested in oil and making money, they don't care about the people in the area, in Oyigbo local government that shell has operated for many years, there is no road in they area they only tare their oil well roads and u are talking about ensuring security, when the road is to be fixed they will tell that you will destroy their under ground supply lines, then fix the road they won't, and you are encouraging them, soon if measures are not put in place what is worse than militancy will emerge, God what kind of insensitive leaders do we have in this country.

@Ugochukwu What is the role of community leaders, chiefs and various gov't appointees in the region about this. I think we need to start checking them as well as Gov't. They take backstage to negotiate with govt and leave the community in devastating mood after bargaining for their pockets.

What are residents of the area doing to better their situation? There's strength in numbers.

They can solve their problems to a large extent by demanding transparency.

There is very little they can do to fight the powers that be... most Nigerians do not care if it is not in their backyard, we would rather talk about things happening in distant places. A bomb blast in Iraq is felt more deeply in Nigeria than one in Borno.

The problem these people are facing is the responsibility for all, as local champions can easily be intimidated or bought off.
