Fulani herdsmen attacks have become one of the biggest threat to Nigeria’s security after devastating insurgency led by terrorist sect, Boko Haram.

Over the past year, Nigeria has seen an uptick in violent activities of nomadic Fulani herdsmen while seeking alternatives fertile grazing land for their cattle.

The sojourn often lead to farms in Nigeria’s middle belt and south east have increased violent conflicts between farmers and herdsmen which is worrisome.

A report compiled by SBM Intelligence, a Lagos-based intelligence consulting firm, pastoral conflicts accounted for more deaths than Boko Haram in the year 2016 than any others.

SBM Intelligence data covers incidents and casualty counts for Nigeria’s biggest security challenges last year: the Boko Haram insurgency, pastoral conflicts involving Fulani herdsmen and cattle rustling as well as a resumption of militancy in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.

Recently, the cows stormed a Church in Benue state while another hijacked a public school in Edo state, thereby increasing tension among communities of another imminent attacks.

The Benue State capital on Sunday, June 19, 2017 after some cattle led by Fulani herdsmen invaded and disrupted church service at the Holy Ghost Catholic Parish, Makurdi.

Also, in Edo state, a herd of cattle in a widely circulated video invaded the Ohonvbe Model Primary School In Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, where pupils ran for their life.

Nigerian States like Ekiti, Benue have passed anti-grazing law while Edo is about to hold hearing on a bill aimed at checking cattle rearing and grazing in the state.
