Cech’s heroics couldn’t stop Bayern from defeating Chelsea

In a battle of wits between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho in the finals of the UEFA Super Cup,Bayern Munich staged a late show to defeat Chelsea 5-4 on penalty shoot-outs.
Both teams battled to a 2-2 draw after extra time, but Chelsea would feel hard done, after conceding with the last kick of the game.
It was a pulsating and very exciting game, with both keepers kept busy through out the game,as they duly earned their pay.
Fernando Torres justified his starting in the game and with a first shot, put Chelsea in front after a nice counter-attack,resulted in Andre Schurlle crossing the ball for him to see through goal for 1-0.
But Bayern had other waves of attack,to equalise the game with Franck Ribery having the best opportunity, only to be denied by the keeper.
Oscar got a glorious chance to shoot Chelsea 2-1 up,missing a golden opportunity after Schurlle squared the ball, capitalising on an error from Dante, only see the ball come of Neure.
Ribery however made amends in the second half, taking a long range shot, after being teed up by Toni Kroos,to grab the equaliser.
Then both sized up each other furthermore, and Ivanovic had opportunity of giving Chelsea the lead, with his header coming off the crossbar.
With few minutes to the end of the game,Ramires had a rush of blood in the head, and his late tackle caught Mario Goetze, which resulted in him picking up a second yellow card and being sent of from the game.
Despite being a man down,Chelsea surged forward and took the lead in extra time, after Eden Hazard skipped past Phillip Lahm and Jerome Boateng to score, but Neuer was culpable as he could have done more to have kept the ball out.
Then the game was all Bayern Munich from then onward,Petr Cech pulled up immaculate stop to deny the German team.
Cech had to make point blank saves from Mandzukic and Martinez, even coming off his lines to stop Goetze.
But it was a heartbreak for Chelsea,as they conceded, with the last kick in extra time, with a cross coming in from the left flank,Chelsea failed to clear their lines,as they ball was laid to an unmarked Martinez, who was calm to convert his chance and make it 2-2.
The technique of the penalty shoot-out was excellent,as both teams neatly dispatched their kicks, but Romelu Lukaku was unlucky, taking the last kick and a very tame penalty which Neuer had no difficulty keeping out.
By virtue of Friday’s victory,Bayern will be winning the UEFA Super Cup for the first time, and it was the third time that Guardiola will be winning the cup, making him one of only three managers to have done so.
