Dr Aliyu Yelwa, the pioneer Chairman, Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), on Saturday, expressed satisfaction with the level of awareness created on fiscal management and record keeping in the country.

Yelwa told newsmen in Abuja that the awareness level was one of his accomplishments as chairman of the commission.

He said that his executive team did the best, in spite of limitations, to ensure that Ministries, Departments and Agencies under the commission’s supervision acted in accordance with the FRC laws in fiscal management.

“We were able to establish the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007, which is a guide to better fiscal practice; this has helped to deepen fiscal consciousness in Nigeria and for that, I am fulfilled.

“The Act has about 56 clauses and we have done all the things possible to implement the clauses in spite of the lacuna in the system.

“This is important to ensure that whoever takes over from us will have a much more comprehensive FRA Law on his side and will be able to continue from where we stopped in promoting better fiscal management in the country.’’

Yelwa also expressed the hope that government would endeavour to be more open about fiscal matters for transparency and financial credence.
