An ex-member of Mexico’s Tijuana Cartel was shot and killed in the Cabo tourist area, CNN reports.

Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix got shot on Friday at a beachfront hotel (a party venue) on the Baja peninsula. Reports say that he was killed by two men, one of whom it is believed was dressed as a clown.

The 63 year old man was killed by a headshot, according to a statement by the special investigation unit.

According to authorities, there were no pending criminal charges against Arellano.

The US department of Justice has said that the Tijuana Cartel is culpable in several murders and kidnappings in addition to drug and gunrunning, and it was run by the members of the Arellano Felix family. Three members of the family have been arrested and currently serving time as at mid-2013. Another member was killed in a 2002 shootout with the police.

Notimex, a state-run newspaper, reports that the state and military forces have mounted roadblocks to search for the gunmen, but have made no arrests so far.
