Uche Secondus has emerged the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at its convention held at the Eagle Square on Saturday.

Secondus defeated other participants due to staunch support from about 11 governors, reports say.

However, the event was without some commotion.

There was a mild drama when Raymond Dokpesi, another contestant who hadn't withdrawn from the race, abandoned his Edo State stand and walked to Rivers State stand to sit with Secondus as the results of the election were being awaited.

Before this time, a mysterious list had gone around, announcing Secondus as the winner of the post.

Also, Adeniran, a former Minister of Education, walked out of the Eagle Square in company with his supporters to protest the outcome of the national convention.

He then called on the national leadership of the party to hand over the affairs of the party to its Board of Trustees.

Secondus, speaking after the victory, said he would do his best to unite the party.
