A Rwandan woman has been killed and a baby wounded by shelling from Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a Rwandan official has said.

According to BBC News, a shell hit a market in the border town of Gisenyi, killing a woman and wounding her baby in a "deliberate" attack on Rwanda, he added.

The UN peacekeeping mission in DR Congo - known by its French initials, Monusco - is fighting alongside government forces. They are both battling M23 rebels.

DR Congo accuses Rwanda of backing the M23, a charge it denies.

Shells also fell into Rwanda last week, and the government accused Congolese government forces of firing them.
