The Ivorian Government has started reintegration training programmes for some 600 ex-combatants in the Korhogo Region of the country, a government statement has revealed.

Mr Daouda Ouattara, the Prefect of Korhogo Region, speaking at the opening of the training said the programmes would span October to December, and would expose the ex-combatants to several skills.

"You will be given training in basic accounting, self-reliance and citizenship as basic preparation for the life ahead.

"The life expected from you after the programme is entirely different from what you knew in the past. So, the training is very crucial,’’ he said.

Mr Doumbia Brahima, the Korhogo Regional Delegate of the Ivorian Commission for Disarmament, Demobilisation and Re-integration said that each ex-combatant would be given 800,000 CFA at the end of the training.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN),the Ivorian economic capital reports that the government had identified no fewer than 64,000 ex-combatants, who fought during the post-election crisis in the country.

The government had announced that 10 per cent of the ex-combatants would be integrated into the customs and prison services, while the rest would be taken to the private sector.
