Cross River State inaugurates ICT hub in Tinapa City

With the world becoming a global village, the Cross River State Governor Senator Liyel Imoke recently inaugurated an ICT hub in Tinapa City with the aim of stimulating a technology driven economy in the state and Nigeria at large. The hub will provide young men and women with the opportunity to compete globally.

He also added that, the ICT hub, a joint partnership project with the Federal Government will not only promote technological competiveness but will diversify the economy of the state to a non-oil economy. Governor Imoke, while commending the Technology Development Entrepreneurship Acceleration, IDEA initiative, called on the private sector to participate in the development of the economy.

Also speaking, the Chairman, House committee on Information Communication Technology, ICT, Hon Nkoyo Toyo, said the centre would be a huge asset and major booster to the development of the nation, since its future depends on human resource based on ICT.

According to the Secretary General Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria, ISPON, Mr. Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu, the centre is designed to have a 250 seater capacity for different kinds of training, an incubator, industrial pavilion that will house about 25 companies, software engineering institute, and a software development Centre.

Mr. Odo Effiong, the Special Adviser to the governor, explained that the ICT hub on completion will help the country connect to businesses and also encourage software production and other related issues.
