The plan to ban importation of rice and hike its import duties may impact negatively on realisation of Customs revenue targets, says Mr Charles Edike, the Area Controller of Nigeria Customs Service (NSC), Apapa Command in Lagos on Thursday.

He said that the command might not meet its revenue target of N470 billion for the 2013 fiscal year and that the command’s monthly collection of N39 billion was on a decline since the proposed ban on imported rice.

Some terminal operators in the Apapa port have not handled rice vessels in the last six months.
